Equilibrium is an excellent film. It is a combination of The Matrix, 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. Thank you Dr. Bradley J. Birzer for recommending it. Preserving culture, love, books, puppies and fighting Big Brother all while executing incredibly cool ninja/samurai fight moves. Need I say more?

We hope you will join us in The Imaginative Conservative community. The Imaginative Conservative is an on-line journal for those who seek the True, the Good and the Beautiful. We address culture, liberal learning, politics, political economy, literature, the arts and the American Republic in the tradition of Russell Kirk, T.S. Eliot, Edmund Burke, Irving Babbitt, Paul Elmer More, Wilhelm Roepke, Robert Nisbet, M.E. Bradford, Eric Voegelin, Christopher Dawson and other leaders of Imaginative Conservatism (Visit our Bookstore to find books by/about these men).
We address a wide variety of major issues including: What is the essence of conservatism? What was the role of faith in the American Founding? Is liberal learning still possible in the modern academy? Should conservatives and libertarians be allies? What is the proper role for the American Republic in spreading ordered liberty to other cultures/nations?
Too bad director kurt wimmmer's follow ups have not been so great. The stunt coordinator for equilibrium apparently watered down his version of gun kata which can be seen in the completely forgettable ultraviolet.
The scene in DuPont's office has more relevance now than the year this movie was released. A more fascistic representation of the sociopathic, Ludwig van loving Alex from Clockwork orange.
Winston, so glad you liked it. Christian Bale is wonderful. The best scene was the Beethoven scene, and the reveal with the son. When dystopia is done well, it's hard to beat.
Sounds like a great combination which will make for an interesting movie. This is a must see for me.
Good movie, thanks for the tip! Have you seen Children of Men? It's my fave dystopian film of the last decade. Has a good pro-life message, too.
CBOB–agreed. The novel of CHILDREN OF MEN is even better. But, of course, it lacks the Pink Floyd and King Crimson references found in the movie.
